To begin the week, the Reds hosted the Kingman Eagles Monday night. Both teams split, winning the first game and losing the second.
Senior Macie Hartman threw a complete game for the Reds. She threw seven innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs (two earned) no walks, and eight strikeouts.
The bats were going for the girls, earning 11 runs, 14 hits, seven RBI’s, four walks, and seven strikeouts. Hartman sent one over the fence in the bottom of the sixth. This resulted in an 11-6 victory for the girls.
The team lost the second game 4-16. Junior Joslin Bartelson took the loss, throwing four innings, allowing eight hits, 10 runs (nine earned), five walks, and two strikeouts.
She was relieved by Hartman, who threw two innings and allowed five hits, six runs (all earned), three walks, and one strikeout.
On the offensive side, they collected four runs, two hits, four RBI’s, four walks, and nine strikeouts. In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Trinity Sisk homered, scoring three. In the bottom of the sixth, junior Jaryn Zoglmann hit a solo home run to center field.
The baseball team took a 7-3 victory in the first game. Sophomore Gabe Tarrant started on the mound for the Reds. He threw four innings, allowing five hits, three runs (all earned), two walks, and seven strikeouts.
Argonia Freshman Taygen Tracey followed and threw 0.1 inning, allowing no hits, no runs, two walks, and no strikeouts.
Freshman Drake Bartelson was then put in to close the game. He threw 2.2 innings, and allowed two hits, no runs, two walks, and two strikeouts.
The Reds collected seven runs, 12 hits, six RBI’s, three walks, and one strikeout. Junior Lucas Pauly and freshman Grant Warren each had two RBI’s for the team. Tarrant’s bat was going, earning three hits for the Reds.
Much like the softball team, the second game did not go their way. Senior Nolan Warren started on the mound for the Reds. He allowed eight hits, six runs (three earned), one walk, and five strikeouts.
He was relieved by sophomore Koy Ast at the top of the fifth. Ast allowed one hit, two runs (all earned), two walks, and six strikeouts.
The Reds collected five runs, eight hits, four RBI’s, three walks, and eight strikeouts on the offensive side.
This was the first time in program history that either Reds team has defeated the Kingman Eagles.
Boys varsity tennis traveled to Anthony Tuesday.
The track team traveled to Kingman for a meet Tuesday.
In the boys running events, senior Braiden Coleman placed first in the 400 meter dash.
In the girls running events, senior Sydney Zoglmann placed fourth in the 1600 meter run. Zoglmann also placed second in the 3200 meter run. Senior Miley Pauly placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Pauly also placed sixth in the 300 meter hurdles.
In the girls’ field events, senior Sadie Koester placed second in high jump. Junior Lairen Pauly placed third in long jump, and fourth in triple jump.
On Thursday, the Reds traveled to Wichita Trinity for a double header. Trinity Academy doesn’t have lights, so the game times were moved up an hour early to 3 p.m.
Junior Joslin Bartelson threw the first game against the Knights. She threw six innings, allowing six hits, two runs (none earned), five walks, and four strikeouts.
The team had a very slow offensive night, with no runs, four hits, no RBI’s, no walks, and six strikeouts.
The Reds lost this game 0-2 after 6.5 innings.
The second game against the Knights ended early due to multiple lightning delays, and eventually tornado sirens led the teams to take shelter in the bathrooms.

The baseball boys took a 0-7 loss against the Knights in the first game. Sophomore Koy Ast started on the mound in the first game. He threw two innings and gave up three hits, four runs (all earned), five walks, and two strikeouts.
He was then relieved by freshman Drake Bartelson. Bartelson threw three innings, allowing six hits, three runs (all earned), one walk, and two strikeouts.
Coming in to close the game was Argonia Freshman Taygen Tracey. He threw one inning, giving up no hits, no runs, one walk, and one strikeout.
The team earned no runs, but had four hits, no RBI’s, two walks, and six strikeouts.
The second game against the Knights ended in a 2-2 tie due to the weather. Senior Jase Downey started on the mound for the Reds, throwing 2.1 innings before the game was called. He allowed three hits, two runs (all earned), one walk, and no strikeouts. Downey faced 10 batters.
The team seemed to be hitting the ball better, having two runs, two hits, two RBI’s, two walks, and five strikeouts.
It is undecided whether this game will be finished at a later date.
Friday was a very busy day for the students. Not only were they trying to decorate for Prom, but most of the members of that committee were on buses headed to track or softball.
The track team traveled to Halstead for their meet.
The girls placed sixth as a team. Sophomore Jade Erker placed third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash. The 4×100 meter relay placed sixth. Junior Lairen Pauly placed fifth in high jump and fourth in triple jump. Erker also placed third in long jump and junior Delaney Jones placed sixth. Along with that, Jones took first place in javelin. Sophomore Bri King placed fifth in discus and sixth in shot. Senior Hayley Pauly placed sixth in discus as well.
The softball team traveled to Dexter for a double header against the Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans. The Reds swept them, gaining two more wins for the girls.
Junior Joslin Bartelson threw the first game. Bartelson threw six innings and allowed three hits, two runs (all earned) four walks, and three strikeouts.
The bats were hot, earning 14 runs, 15 hits, 11 RBI’s, five walks, and 10 strikeouts, leading to a 14-2 Reds victory.
Senior Macie Hartman started the second game. Hartman threw seven innings, and allowed two hits, one run (all earned), five walks, and three strikeouts.
The Reds collected nine runs, 10 hits, six RBI’s, three walks, and 11 strikeouts.
JV baseball hosted the Kingman Eagles on Friday. They took two tough losses, and will play at 2 p.m. against Medicine Lodge next Thursday at home.
Saturday was a busy day for the kids. Boys varsity and JV tennis traveled to Valley Center.
The music kids also traveled to Salina for the State Solo and Ensemble Competition.
Earning I rating were the Cardinalaires, senior Jase Downey on his vocal solo, senior Isaiah Rivera on his vocal solo and euphonium solo, senior Ashton Stull on his tuba solo, and junior Adysen Conkle on her vocal solo.
Earning a II rating were sophomores Micah Wolke on her saxophone solo and Kaelynn Downey on her vocal solo.
Prom took place on Saturday night. The theme was “Under the Sea,” and the students used a lot of oceanic designs to decorate for prom, including a jellyfish chandelier.
There was a DJ and photobooth for the dance, with a taco bar for dinner. For After Prom, the kids were able to play on bouncy houses, large ladder golf, cornhole, Just Dance, or gamble at games like roulette and black jack for more tokens.
