Last Friday, the boys’ varsity tennis team traveled to Goddard. However, the members of the team were each only able to get one game in before they were rained out. The meet will be rescheduled to a later date.
The CSA Reds baseball team traveled to Cedar-Vale Dexter. The Reds took the loss 2-9, having a slow day at the plate. The boys collected two runs, seven hits, one RBI, one walk, and five strikeouts.
Sophomore Koy Ast started on the mound. He threw 3.2 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs (two earned) no walks, and five strikeouts.
Ast was then relieved by Argonia freshman Taygen Tracey, who threw 1.2 innings, and allowed two hits, three runs (one earned), two walks and two strikeouts.
To close the game, freshman Drake Bartelson closed the game for the Reds. Bartelson threw 1.2 innings, and allowed no hits, no runs, no walks, and five strikeouts.
The second game was a JV game, and the Reds won 5-0.
The students started off the week of April 13-17 hosting a few home events. Boys JV tennis hosted their meet, and the CSA Reds hosted Belle Plaine.
The boys JV tennis team placed third at the meet, despite not having a full team. All members of the team medaled.
The CSA Reds softball team took two victories over the Dragons.
The Reds won the first game 21-11. Senior Macie Hartman threw the whole game for the Reds. Hartman threw 5 innings, allowing six hits, 11 runs (one earned), three walks, and six strikeouts.
The Reds also had a good offensive night. They collected 21 runs, 18 hits, 14 RBI’s, five walks, and one strikeout. Junior Joslin Bartelson homered to center field, and senior Reece Johnson homered to left field.
The Reds won the second game 14-2. Bartelson threw the entire second game. She allowed no hits, two runs (all earned), five walks and four strikeouts.
The Reds’ bats were hot Monday night. They collected 14 runs, six hits, seven RBI’s five walks, and two strikeouts.
There were no home runs in this game; however, Johsnon hit two doubles, Bartelson hit one, and freshman Trinity Sisk hit one as well. Bartelson also hit a triple to right field.
On the baseball fields, the Reds swept the Dragons.
In the first game of the night, sophomore Gabe Tarrant threw the whole game for the Reds. He threw three innings, allowing six hits, two runs (all earned), no walks and four strikeouts.
The bats were going this game, as the Reds earned 21 runs, 17 hits, 18 RBI’s, three walks, and two strikeouts.
The Reds won this game 21-2.
The second game against Belle Plaine resulted in a 16-5 victory. Senior Nolan Warren threw four innings for the Reds, giving up 10 hits, five runs (all earned) one walk, and four strikeouts.
Freshman Drake Bartelson relieved Warren for one inning. He gave up no hits, no runs, no walks, and two strikeouts.
The Reds collected 16 runs, 15 hits, 13 RBI’s, two walks and six strikeouts in this game. Senior Jase Downey led the team with four RBI’s.
The Reds hosted JV softball and baseball games against Chaparral April 14. The baseball team won 14-1 in game one and 10-0 in game two. JV softball lost both games.
Forensics held an awards ceremony Tuesday evening. Seniors Konner Bidwell and Isaiah Rivera were awarded Best Recruiters. Rivera also earned Senior Excellence and qualified for state in Improvised Duet Acting with senior Ashton Stull. Stull was awarded Novice Excellence for his performance.
Novice Merit was given to all students who competed in a meet this season. Sophomores Kaelynn Downey and Micah Wolke; junior Troy Herndon; and seniors Colton Friess, Bella McPhail, Amelia Meyers, Stull, and Zayden Zoglmann all earned this award.
Downey, Herndon, and McPhail were also awarded the Versatility Award.
Many of the students qualified for state: Downey in Serious Solo Acting, Herndon and Meyers in Improvised Duet Acting along with Rivera and Stull. Wolke qualified for Extemporaneous Speaking. Wolke also earned Novice Excellence with her event.
Cheer and dance had their parent meeting Wednesday night, followed later by a Project Prom parent meeting.
On Thursday, the band traveled to Pratt for the State Large Group Contest. The band earned all ones for their performances of “Moscow, 1941” and “Beautiful River.”
On Friday, JV boys baseball hosted South Sumner for a double header. Boys’ varsity tennis traveled to Hesston. The track meet took place at Garden Plain. Both of these meets were moved up due to expecting weather.
