The CSA Reds softball team wrapped up their fourth regular season as a program with a final record of 12-12.
The girls said they worked together this year to achieve their season goals for the team and to have success.
“I really feel like our team chemistry was good this year,” senior Reece Johnson said. “I was able to connect with a lot of girls. Being so close to a lot of them made practices and games a lot more enjoyable throughout the season.”
After the CPL tournament at Genesis, the Reds went on a run, winning five games in a row before splitting with Kingman.
Freshman Sam Howard, who spent most of her playing time behind the plate or at shortstop, was very positive about the season and program.
“It’s going in a positive direction,” she said. “We’re gonna get better as the years go by. We’re building in the right direction.”
The Reds and head coach Justi Norris earned quite a bit of credit, saying that their program had been continuing to get better since they began. This year, she were joined by assistant coaches Alivia Lange and Wanda Smith.
“The coaching staff is always giving tips, even if it’s small or big,” Johnson said. “Overall, the environment is just really positive and helpful.”
The girls also reached a big milestone. In program history, they had not beat Kingman. This year, they split with them at home on April 20.
“(The win against Kingman felt) amazing. We’ve never beaten them before and it was a good team win,” senior Macie Hartman said.
Hartman was one of two pitchers for the team, earning quite a bit of time on the mound as well as at first base.
The first round of regionals will be played at Minneapolis at 5 pm on Tuesday, May 19.
