When people think of cheer, the thought is probably the positive and smiling faces that are seen on the sidelines. What crowds don’t see, however, is the hard work that gets put in every day working on new skills.
“Full up or lib (stunts are skills we’ve been working on) and stair step (is the hardest stunt we’ve mastered). We’re practicing these for our competition right now,” senior Savannah Reames said.
Cheerleaders said learning new stunts and skills for competitions was important, but they also had a few favorite cheers they did at games.
“A lean, a lean, a lean (is my favorite cheer to do when the crowd is really loud),” junior Brooke Koster said.
Being a cheerleader meant showing up for all the practices and games, but it also meant showing up for each other.
“It means I’ll always have people to go to,” freshman Essie Herndon said. “I know all of them will be there for me, like when I’m having a hard time or anything, and I can always rely on them.”
