The boys ended the season with a record of 12-11 . The team started the year off with a win before placing sixth in the Marion Tournament. Following the tournament, the team went on a run of four wins. Led by five seniors and coached by Paul Lange and Craig Frederick, the team worked through adversity to find success this season.
“(Our biggest challenge was) just playing as a team,” junior Caleb Newell said,“Most of our players play MAYB, so that’s more of a single person kind of thing and not a team thing, (but) I embraced how my teammates were and adapted to their play style.”
The team wasn’t very post-heavy, having many of the players ready for the 3-point shot.
“(My favorite moment of the season was) probably either Koy or Benge hitting a buzzer beater,” Newell said.
Senior Logan Osner also shared his favorite moment.
“(My favorite moment of the season was) beating Garden Plain on their home floor,” he said. “We knew it would be a competitive game and were ready to play from the start.”
The boys said the team’s chemistry also changed throughout the season.
“I feel like we’ve grown together and played more as a team the last few games,” Osner said.
Junior Hayden Frederick also said he thought the team had changed over the season.
“We’ve became a lot more smoother and work together a lot better,” he said.
The Cardinals lost in the semi-finals of Substate to Berean Academy.
