CSHS football kicked off the season in Garden Plain last Thursday, Aug. 31. From the early morning practices to the long, hot summer conditioning, these boys head into the season with determination.
“We have a lot of returning players, and our eyes are set on state,” junior Isaac Winter said. “With a lot of expectations this year, and we are working hard to meet those.”
Starting off the season with a loss seems to be especially difficult for the seniors.
“The last time playing with my buddies is exciting, but it’s a little depressing,” senior Jacob Osner said.
Osner also said he is most excited about watching the team improve from week one to the end of the season.
Playing Garden Plain for the first game has been tough on Conway Springs. The Cardinals have started their season with a loss to the Owls for the last five years.
“The kids played really hard,” head coach Matt Biehler said. “The turnovers hurt us in the end.”
Although their spirits were low after the game, freshman Caleb Newell said he’s enjoying being part of the team.
“The team keeps each other positive,” Newell said.
The Cardinals prepare to take on the Kingman Eagles at home on Sept. 8.
