The State Music Contest was held April 27 in Hillsboro at Tabor College.Several solos and the Cardinalaires attended this contest. T
The Cardinalaires performed “I Believe” and got a I.
“It was a new experience,” freshman Grayson Allen said. “There weren’t nearly as many schools as I thought there would be. “We did good as a group, but it sounded kinda weird because of how the room was built. We could have harmonized better.”
For the solos, , all of them earned at least a II rating on their pieces. Sophomore Jase Downey got a I.
“The experience of going to state and performing at state is fun,” he said. “Singing my solo was a bit nerve-racking, but it was overall pretty fun, and I had an enjoyable day.”
There were also a few band members that played instrumental solos, all of them also getting II or higher.
“It was really fun getting to play my tuba solo at state,” junior Ashton Stull said. “I was really happy with my performance although I do think the fact I got a II instead of a I was rigged.”
