This year’s Scholars Bowl team has 19 members, seven of whom are new members. So far, varsity members have attended two meets: one at Wichita East and the other at Kingman.
“We have, between JV and varsity, 25 meets scheduled, so I hope to see scores get better and better every meet,” scholars bowl sponsor Kirsty Martin said.
The first meet of the season was held at Wichita East on Oct. 21. The team scored 70 points and ended pool play with a record of 1-4.
“I thought we did decently for the first meet of the year,” junior Darrek Bishop said. “Most everyone answered at least one question or guessed at the answer. We’ll definitely have to practice more if we want to beat some of the teams we lost against.”
The Kingman meet was on Oct. 23 and played round robin style. The team finished fourth, with an overall record of 3-3 and 180 scored points during the rounds.
“I think that we ended up doing a pretty good job,” junior Addie Pauly said. “We definitely improved from the beginning. We were kind of a mess, but by the end we were doing better.”
So far for the season, the top three with most points scored in varsity games are senior CJ Round with 70 points, sophomore Sylvester Hemberger with 50, and Pauly with 40 points.
