On Sept. 24, the volleyball team hosted their first regular home game. Varsity is coached by Amanda Becker and JV is coached by Justi Sims. Varsity played Independent and the Wichita Warriors homeschool team. JV only played Independent. Some players described this game as a bit rough, but they said they are looking to improve.
Before every game, the players get a pep talk from their coaches and Becker reads out of their “volleyball bible,” which contains motivational quotes. Usually the players give each other a pep talk right before a game.
“Before they blow the whistle we get in a circle and do a break down and talk about what we need to focus on,” sophomore Jaryn Zoglmann said.
Some players said there could be improvement when it comes to staying positive.
“We’ve done better,” freshman Daisy Severe said. “I think we just need to not get down on ourselves after making a tiny mistake.”
So far during the season some of the girls said they have improved their skills.
“I think I’m growing a lot on my hits on the outside and all around being a better teammate,” Zoglmann said.
JV played best three out of five matches and they won the second and third match. On the varsity side, they lost 2-1 vs. Independent and then lost 2-0 against Wichita Homeschool.
