The track members were up and running at their first meet at Clearwater on March 28. At the meet at Douglass on April 2, the girls won first place. A meet was also held at home on April 5.
Freshman Delaney Jones got second place in long jump at both the Clearwater and Douglass meet, and she was part of the winning 4x100m relay at Douglass. She was listed as the number two long jumper for girls 2A by Catch It Kansas for week 4.
“I feel like track is going really good,” Jones said. “I really like the teammates I get to spend a lot of my time with.”
Jones is one of several dual-sport athletes this season.
“I feel like dual sports are hard because I’m always busy and going to two practices after school,” she said.
Sophomore Cohen Newell has also been faced with a challenge when it comes to throwing. He participates in shot put, discus, and javelin.
“I had to get back into the form of how to throw, and it was hard to remember everything,” Newell said.
Sophomore Sydney Zoglmann runs both the one and two mile. She said she is proud of the girls first place win.
“It felt nice that we have such a strong girls team that we can win even if our team is smaller than some,” Zoglmann said.
