On March 31, track had the first meet of the season in Clearwater. Track athletes had been practicing for over a month to prepare for the season. The first meet of the year was a cold one. The Cardinals took home many first place medals in different events. However, it was a participation meet so all the schools were not placed.

Freshman Morgan Koester placed first in long jump and in the 400-meter dash.

“I think I did good for the first track meet, but hopefully I can keep improving,” she said.

One of the struggles the athletes faced was the wind.

“It was very windy out, and it affected my 400 and high jump,” Koester said.

Junior Gunner Williams placed first in shot put and discus.

“[My favorite part of track] is the people and getting to know people from different schools,” he said.

Sophomore Payton Hare does shotput and javelin. Hare said he plans on doing track and field until he graduates.

I feel I did pretty well,” he said. ”It is the first meet, so you never really do as well as you could because you don’t have as much practice.”
