Feb. 6, senior Janel Meyer went to Price Chopper in Kansas City for a grocery bagging competition as the Hired Man’s Grocery & Grill representative. The National Grocers Association hosted the nationwide competition to promote small town stores. The contestants weren’t given a time limit but tried to go as fast as possible while getting the bags to weigh close to the same amount.
“The faster you finish the better,” Meyer said. “You have a better score.”
At the competition, the contestants had to scan items and put them into grocery bags. Meyer managed to get the bags to weigh almost the same amount.
“The judge told me my bags weighed the most even amount,” Meyer said. “You’re supposed to make all the bags weigh the same, and my bags weighed 11.6, 11.7, and 11.8 kilograms.”
Meyer finished in 2nd place overall. She’s worked for Hired Man’s for over a year.
