Recently, the varsity girls basketball team traveled to Mulvane to participate in the 2024 Wildcat Classic. They played three different teams, finishing with 5th place.
“I feel that we started slow, but finished the last two games with a good fight,” said junior Ava Daniel.
While basketball tournaments can be tiring, many players said that their skills can improve drastically when playing back to back, and other players simply said they enjoy the hard work.
“My favorite part of the tournament was pulling through and beating Winfield in a close game,” said sophomore Macie Hartman.
The first game against the Collegiate Spartans was a narrow loss, 31-35. The next game they played was against the Winfield Vikings, winning 33-30. The final game, they brought home another win, beating the Wichita North Rockets 58-43.
“I feel our wins were successful and showed we can work as a team even when a game doesn’t go our way,” said junior Raylee Chitwood.
Senior Melissa Embankamp brings the ball down the court. The team finished with a 2-1 record, earning 5th place in the tournament.
