To graduate, a student must have 20 volunteer hours, aiming to complete at most 5 per year. Volunteer hours typically benefit the community or require a student putting in extra hours for their school.
Juniors Jaryn Zoglmann, Delaney Jones, and Lairen Pauly volunteered for the Special Olympics.
“It’s an organization that gets disabled people involved and included in sports and activities,” Zoglmann said. “It helps them with learning and confidence, and for them to make new friends and stay active.”
The three helped out with a track meet in June.
“We had to keep track of time, make sure the runners were in the right lanes, and do staging,” Pauly said.
This provided the girls with the complete amount of hours, typically ranging from seven to eight hours of work.
“(My favorite part was) being surrounded by all the positivity and the funny conversations I’d hear,” Jones said
