One volunteer project benefitting Conway Springs first-hand, was coaching. Many high school athletes took it upon themselves to coach a recreational sport and gain their hours from that. Senior Ashton Stull teamed up with fellow senior Bryson Lange to coach a 4-6 grade flag football team.
Coaching the team did require a lot of time on the boys’ part.
“Practices were always an hour long and it was right after varsity football practice. Later in the season we did have to end up cutting practice short because it got dark,” Stull said.
This did not include traveling and coaching the games. Despite the effort it took, both found the experience enjoyable.
“I really enjoyed using what I learned from Mr. (Matt) Biehler and using it to teach the kids,” Stull said. “I also liked getting to know the kids. Practice was supposed to be serious but we ended up goofing off most of the time.”
