FCCLA had a new sponsor this year: FACS teacher Emma Willert. Throughout the school year, the organization held fundraisers to raise money to go towards expenses for conferences and competitions.
“During the fall, we had a bake sale to raise money, and during the winter we made homemade cookie decorating kits,” freshman Lanie Hartman said. “We also want to eventually do a garage sale to get rid of things and raise more money.”
However, not all of their projects make money; some of them were service projects to help out the community.
“For Valentine’s Day, we had our chapter make valentines notes for residents at the nursing home,” sophomore Delaney Jones said. “[It was] to give them some encouragement and some laughter during the holiday.”
Jones and sophomore Joslin Bartelson used the Valentine’s Day activity as their chapter service project for a STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) event, earning second place.
“There are a lot of different kinds of STAR events you can pick, but we chose to do chapter service because it was something we could do together,” Bartelson said. “We just had to involve ourselves with the community.”
