National Honor Society was an organization dedicated to helping out the community and school by performing various service projects. To be part of NHS, students had to be invited by sponsor Chris Bellar. Students had to write a paragraph on why they should be part of NHS and maintain a 3.5 GPA.
Students had different reasons for joining NHS.
“I thought it would be cool to do stuff around the community and build my skills towards being a leader,” junior Isaiah Rivera said.
Another requirement of being in NHS was to complete a service project during the year, either on their own or with a partner.
“I did the Angel Tree for the nursing home, and I worked down at the nursing home for over a year,” Rivera said. “Being able to help the residents get gifts for Christmas was very meaningful.”
Some seniors this year were able to have leadership positions. Cooper Koster was the secretary and took notes during all the meetings.
“[Being a leader] sets a standard to the class below us,” Koster said. “It sets a good example of how NHS should be.”
Some students had connections with the places they did their service project.
