Conway Springs offers three electives for those interested in music, such as band, choir, and Cardinalaires. However, students must audition and be accepted into Cardinalaires, unlike choir, which is open to anyone.
“I just take Cardinalaires as an extra class,” senior Darrek Bishop said. “I think I’ll continue singing as a hobby, however.”
Many students who join Cardinalaires have a deeper connection, being able to relate with music.
“I’ve loved music ever since I was a kid,” senior Madison Mishler said. “It’s always been one of my favorite things and helps me relax.”
Being in Cardinalaires, students don’t just get to learn, they get to perform. Students will audition each year to perform a duo, group, or solo in their concert(s).
“During sophomore year’s Cabaret, I got to ‘Rickroll’ the audience, and that was epic sauce,” senior James Hancock said.
During Cardinalaires, students make new memories along the way.
“My favorite moment was last year at the cabaret concert. We were waiting for our performance, and I was sitting in a corner of the Cardinalaire room,” Bishop said. “We were all taking shots of lemon juice from Mya to try to sing better. We were cracking jokes, then we went out to sing.”
