Summertime is quickly approaching, and this is viewed as the perfect time for high schoolers to work a job and make some money to last them through the school year. A popular summer job is lifeguarding, and many Conway Springs students take advantage of this opportunity.
“You get to spend a lot of time with friends while making money,” senior Nash Johnsen said. “The environment is very positive, and you get to learn a lot of skills that are useful in life.”
Other students like to take a different approach to their summer jobs and spend their time working for family or family friends. When harvest time comes around, many high schoolers seek employment working for farmers or taking care of the crops.
“I work for Tom Pauly,” junior Owen Friess said. “I weigh and empty trucks and haul them off to wherever they are needed.”
Some high schoolers are lucky enough to find jobs that can become a future career or give them a push in the direction of what they would like to become in the future. Sophomore Trent Haines is interested in mechanics and found a company to get him on the right path.
“I am going to work for South Central Hydraulics,” Haines said. “I will work on and fix the trucks that drive on the trains. I am excited because I will be making a lot of money.”
