After earning a I rating at league, the band went to state band on April 18 in Pratt. The band performed their two contest songs, “Antecedium” and “The Alamo” for three judges.
Only two bands received an overall I rating in Pratt that day.
“I am really proud of the band’s performance at contest,” music director Stephanie Bodley said. “Overall, we had the third highest score of the day, which I am pleased with. We had some tough judges and to get a high II Excellent rating is impressive.”
Two judges gave a 67 as their ratings and one judge gave a 70 out of 80. A score of 69 is the threshold for a I score.
“I thought we should have gotten a low I, but I’m still happy with our rating,” sophomore Ali Potts said. “I think that we put in a lot of work and believe it sounded better than some of the other bands we listened to.”
Some students think the songs were good choices.
“I think that the songs showcased our ability to make good music,” junior Darrek Bishop. “It also showed how much effort we put into the music and shows how far we’ve come from first playing the songs.”
