The varsity Scholars Bowl team travelled to Belle Plaine on Jan. 13. The team only lost three rounds during the tournament.. They lost to Kingman in the semi-finals and played Medicine Lodge in the consolation round, taking third place.

They have the opportunity to not only show what they know already, but also to represent their school.

“My favorite part about Scholars Bowl is to compete against others and to get educated on things I didn’t know much about before,” junior Sadie Schmanke said.

The team has gained several members this year. With a larger group, members feel optimistic about what they can accomplish by the end of the season.

“One of my goals is to qualify for state,” senior Neal Zoglmann said. “Even if we don’t win state, it would still be great to qualify and go.”

The team’s season is nearing its end, with League on Jan. 28. Last year at League, the team medaled, and this year they are using this as a goal for the upcoming League contest.

“I hope we can medal again like we did last year,” junior Lucy Boyles said.
