The cross country team consisted of only seven runners and was coached by Craig Frederick for a third year.
“Before everyone got hurt this season, it was (a team goal) to send a boys team to state,” senior and captain Sydney Zoglman said. “Now we’re just trying to get better and break the records we have here.”
Despite the injuries they have endured, senior Isaiah Rivera said he was trying to stay positive about the season.
“I’m just confident that we have good runners, good people on our team,” he said. “It’s nice to see the support from those who have been injured even though they can’t be running.”
Sophomore Gus Hemberger also had good things to say about cross country.
“We all really want to go to State,” he said. “We want to send a boys team and a girls team to State.”
Zoglmann said her favorite course to run was Wichita Trinity.
“They have a fun playground. They also have really cool hills and it’s shady and it’s funny to watch people wipe out,” she said. “Cross country is running half the time and side-questing the rest of the time.”
The cross country will travel to Wichita Trinity for Regionals on Saturday, Oct. 25.
