The football season is underway, beginning with practices in August. As reigning state champs, the team has big goals for the season. After losing 10 seniors, junior Lucas Pauly is stepping up to varsity.
“It feels different than JV,” he said. “I will need to fill the shoes of those before me and not think about it too much.”
Returning varsity member and senior Logan Osner said he is feeling good so far.
“(My favorite part of the team is) how close we are as a unit,” he said. “I’m excited, ready to get going and hopefully get some great wins just like the last two years.”
Sophomore Dalton Ast is new to the team after coming from Norwich last year.
“Getting to know everybody (is the best part of being on the team,” he said. “Everyone’s pretty nice.”
The team’s first game was at Nickerson on Sept. 5. The Cardinals won 28-20.
“We did good in some aspects, but we still have some other aspects to work on,” Pauly said.
On Sept. 12, the football team played their first home game against the Garden Plain Owls. The Cardinals lost 14-33.
