The Student Publications had a smaller class this year, so every student worked on the yearbook instead of choosing between it and the website. In Student Publications, students take photos, and interview other students for stories in the yearbook.
Each of the stories for the yearbook was also posted on the website.
“[I enjoy] writing the stories, and I just like getting to interview people,” freshman Bristol Pauly said. “I feel like when I’m writing the story I get to know more about the subjects.”
While some students said they enjoyed writing the stories on events, some preferred being able to be creative with photos and review writing.
“My favorite thing I’ve done in SPUB is probably being able to be creative when taking pictures and writing stories,” sophomore Kelly Stuhlsatz. “Review writing, I prefer writing because I get to be more experimental.”
However, not all stories and photos were for the yearbook. Some were written based on a prompt provided by KSPA, a state organization, for contests. This year at Regionals, 13 out of the 14 entries placed in the top six in the categories to qualify for State.
“Placing in KSPA is always a good feeling. It shows the hard work that went into my writing,” senior Addie Pauly said. “I was lucky enough to get first in feature writing in regionals.”
