Under the scorching sun of a 99-degree day, students competed in an olympics of their own. There were five games. consisting of Hungry Hippos, Hula Hoop Leap Race, The Board Walk, Water Balloon Toss, and Crossing the Amazon.
In each game, a number of students volunteered to compete for class points. These games took place on the last week of fall homecoming: Sept. 20.
“My favorite game to watch was the water balloon toss,” senior Jan Stuhlsatz said. “It was funny when the balloons popped on them, and we had a water balloon fight afterwards.”
As usual, students were able to dress up each day to earn points for their class. The days were Monday Mood (pajama day), Ahoy Matey Tuesday (pirate gear), USA Wednesday, Despicable Thursday (characters from “Despicable Me”), and Cardinal Pride Friday.
“I liked minion day because everybody was a minion,” sophomore Adysen Conkle said.
Another competition the classes competed in was sidewalk chalk. The homecoming theme was Carnival Nights and Dazzling Lights, which influenced the classes on their designs.
“I liked getting to work with other people I don’t normally get to work with,” freshman Lanie Hartman said.
Homecoming celebrations wrapped up during the school day with a community pep rally in the park, which included band, dance, and cheer performances and games involving the homecoming candidates.
