English is a required class students take all four years of high school. English 9 and 11 are taught by second year teacher Sierra Ardanche. English 10 and 12 and Composition I and II are taught by Tamara Salisbury.
Seniors have the option to take Composition for college credit instead of English 12.
“I decided to take Comp because I wanted a challenge and I didn’t want to have an easy year for my final year of high school,” senior Darrek Bishop said.
Comp students got to read banned books and write an essay on why or why not they should be kept in the classroom.
“I do think reading banned books was beneficial and reading those books helped us learn more about things than we would typically be exposed to in high school,” senior Audrey Schuler said.
Vocabulary is a big part of the English curriculum. In the freshman class, Ardanche helped students memorize these words by playing review games like trashketball.
“[Mrs. Ardanche] is nice and she helps you whenever you are struggling with something,” freshman Jenny Murphy said.
