Business teacher Andrew Gower is starting up a new club at CSHS for his second year here: FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). He said that his first priority is to gain membership, and once that is done, he would like to give opportunities for students to compete at the state level. Another aspect of the organization is fundraising.
“Our charitable organization is March of Dimes,” Gower said. “We will put that into place with the fundraising.”
Gower said he was inspired to start this club here because at his previous school, Elinwood, he really liked the turn-out.
“I took on that chapter, and I really enjoyed what it offered the students,” Gower said. “A few girls got to go to Chicago once, and that is an opportunity that may not have been there before.”
Gower said he thinks this club is good for people who want to get involved but don’t seem to fit in other clubs.
“To me, it’s similar to FFA and FCCLA; it allows more options for those students who don’t necessarily fit into those organizations,” he said. “It will help them with professional skills and networking.”
Those who are interested in FBLA can meet in Gower’s classroom on Sept. 19 during Activity Period.
