On Sept. 18, the annual National Honor Society induction ceremony was held at the CSHS auditorium. The students enjoyed a potluck dinner, and then the new members were recognized and received a pin. The officers read a speech and lit candles that represented the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. NHS sponsor Chris Bellar said during the ceremony that the students in NHS are the “cream of the crop.”
Senior Isaac Winter is an officer for NHS this year.
“It’s an honor to represent a club like NHS and be part of an organization with standards like that,” he said.
To be part of NHS, students have to maintain good grades, show leadership and do some type of service project that benefits the community or school. Students join NHS for various reasons.
“I have good grades, and also I enjoy being in a bunch of clubs in the school,” junior Jase Downey said.
For their service project, senior Brooke Beck and junior Erica Zoglmann planned the ceremony.
“I think overall it went okay, but next year it could be more organized,” junior Erica Zoglmann said. “[The hardest part was] probably just trying to get everything set up like the tables, decorations and chairs.”
Some members said they felt that the organization was run well and it’s an important tradition.
“Everybody did their part to chip in,” senior Isaac Winter said. “It’s a good ordeal to see all the good members and just have a good time.”
