CSHS hosted their annual cheer tryout week March 18-21. During this week, the athletes learned jumps and kicks. On top of that, they were also required to memorize a dance, a cheer, and a crowd chant. There are many more precise skills that these cheerleaders had to learn in order to get the high score to make the team.
“I feel that trying out as a returner is a lot easier than it is that first year,” junior Lacey Kelly said. “You kind of already know what the judges want to see.”
Cheer tryouts took place in the morning this year, starting at 5:30 a.m. and ending at 6:50 a.m. These early morning times made it more difficult for the cheerleaders and tested their dedication.
“Getting up early in the mornings was rough, but I feel we all put our time to good use,” junior Jan Stuhlsatz said.
Along with learning the cheers, dance, and jumps, participants had to work on sharp, stiff movements and having confidence in everything they do.
The tryouts took place Thursday, March 21 at 4 p.m. Many of the girls said that they were nervous, but they worked extra hard to make it up.
“I was really afraid of forgetting one of the routines, but I feel I did pretty well overall,” junior Faith Rivera said.
Everyone who tried out made the team this year, with a team of six girls for 2024-2025: incoming seniors Riley Fevella, Lacey Kelly, Faith Rivera, Jan Stuhlsatz and Audrey Warren and sophomore Memory Rieth..
