On Feb. 16, the winter homecoming game and ceremony was held. This year there was no school on Homecoming, but that didn’t stop students from showing up and supporting the cardinals against Medicine Lodge.
The girls had a close game, ending with a score of 40-44. Sophomore Miley Pauly said this loss was disappointing because they wanted to win for homecoming and senior night.
“I think we were able to keep up with them just because we wanted to win and we barely lost to them before,” Pauly said.
The boys then played, losing 38-47.
Junior Connor Rusco said his team struggled a bit, and that is why they did not end up winning.
“The team connection just was not there,” Rusco said. “We were frustrated with ourselves because we were not playing with our fullest capabilities.”
Right after the basketball games, the homecoming ceremony was held. The candidates this year were seniors Natalie Doffing and Riley Johnsen, Janel Meyer and Alex Hekel, Kaley Perkins and Nash Johnsen, and Melissa Ebenkamp and Nathan Bernsten. The homecoming king was Nash Johnsen and the queen was Melissa Ebenkamp.
“I feel the same [after winning homecoming queen], I was really happy that I got it,” said Ebenkamp. “I think the friends that I have now helped me get to where I’m at.”
The students ended the night with a homecoming after party in the commons.
