After high school, seniors Jewelianne Allmond, Faith Kelly, and Kaley Perkins plan on enlisting into the military. Allmond is enlisting into the Navy while Kelly and Perkins are enlisting into the Air Force.
“I am going on active duty and will ship out for boot camp on June 11,” Allmond said. “After basic training, I am headed up to Connecticut for 18 weeks to train to be a Machinist Mate for submarines. Fun fact, I found out on Super Bowl Sunday that my great-grandpa was also a submarine machinist mate.”
Perkins decided on the Air Force to keep family tradition, as her grandpa served for about 15-20 years.
“I want to keep the branch going in my family,” she said.
The military is also a tradition for Kelly.
“My entire family, my parents, my sister and my brother,” Kelly said. “On both sides of my family really. I grew up around the military. All my parents’ friends are in the military too.”
Kelly wants to enlist in the Guard short-term.
“I went into the Guard, because I want more control of my life,” Kelly said. “I don’t think I’ll stay in Kansas. I was looking into Texas or Florida. It would just be for four years.”
