A couple of new classes have been introduced this school year, and one is the Creative Writing class. Teacher Tamara Salisbury said the goal of this class is to give students the techniques to expand their writing skills. The class started in the second semester after the Intro to Theater class.
The Creative Writing class started the semester with a project that’s a little different, Salisbury said.
“We are starting with fanfiction,” she said. “The (students) were pretty pumped when we talked about it.”
A fanfiction is a story written by a fan of a particular movie, TV show, etc., that adds to the story in some way.
“My fanfiction is [about] ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’” sophomore Sydney Zoglmann said. “A new girl who’s always wanted to be there sneaks in, and she finds the other kids that get trapped in the movie.”
Some students had an idea of what exactly they wanted to take away from this class.
“[I hope to learn] how to describe a scene using my own words and my own style,” sophomore Amelia Meyers said, “ [for example] how to describe situations and ideas through text and dialogue.”
