KSPA held their annual winter workshop at WSU on Feb. 12. Six journalism students attended the workshops. There were six different sessions to choose from, and students got to attend one.
At these sessions students could learn more about Finding the Best Angle, Typography Hierarchy and Design, Designing Infographics, Learning to Shoot Video, Sports Reporting, and Advertising and Web Design in Journalism Publications.
“[I did] the sport writing section. The most important thing I took away from it was when you’re in a difficult interview you can mirror the question to get a better response,” junior Addie Pauly said. “We got to interview a WSU volleyball athlete. It was fun to interview her.”
Each session leader went over information about their topic and also had students do a project.
“The Advertising and Website Design could have been good but she did too much review on things I already knew,” senior Mya Scott said. “The big project at the end was fun. We had to create our own ad.”
Senior Riley Johnsen echoed what Scott said. He said he took this session because it aligned with his future career.
“I went to the Advertising and Website Design session because I wanted to learn about advertising so when I’m a director in the future I can advertise for my plays,” Johnsen said. “But it ended up being so spread out on information that I didn’t learn much.”
