Dogs have been the most popular pet since the late 18th century, according to National Geographic Kids . These domesticated animals are descended from a species of wolves. There are endless reasons why people should add a furry friend into their home.
Dogs have a great personality and are so affectionate. These animals will make you feel less lonely with their unconditional love and constant cuddles. They can also help you with mental health, and multiple studies show that dogs and therapy dogs help relieve stress and anxiety, according to the American Kennel Club. Dogs make us more social; for example, walking with a dog makes people more approachable and gives others a conversation starter.
Once dogs bond with a human, that bond becomes unbreakable. Along with being loving pets, dogs are also highly intelligent and sensitive animals. Dogs today hold jobs just like us humans, such as in law enforcement, search and rescue, medical research, and emotional support. Personally, I think we don’t deserve dogs because they are such loving creatures. No matter what you do to the dog, it will still love you. With getting a dog you are also rescuing it. Every year 3.3 million dogs enter shelters and 670,000 are euthanized, according to PETA. At least 65% of owners can adopt a rescue dog for free. According to PETA, “In the United States there is an estimated amount of 70 million homeless dogs struggling to survive.” So, instead of getting a dog for a thousand dollars from a pet store, rescue one from shelters or the streets.
I have five dogs at home, and I love them unconditionally. They make me feel less alone and calm me down when I’m stressed. These animals are top tier.
