On Oct. 21, the cross country team traveled to Regionals. Seven out of eight cross country team members competed at this meet. Cross country members said it was a warm but windy day.
Members of the cross country team said this course in particular was very challenging, and this caused them to not do as well as they wanted to.
“[The meet was] not very good. It was really sandy and there were a lot of hills,” freshman Grayson Allen said. “It was hard to push through in the last 100 meters.”
Sophomore Kadyn Madi was a dual sport athlete this fall. He ran cross country while playing football.
“[A challenge was] not being able to go to practices for football,” he said. ”The dual sport, in general, was hard.”
Sophomore Bethany Hollis had some different challenges as to why this meet was a bit difficult.
“At the beginning of the season, I got Covid I had to skip the first meet,” Hollis said. “The changing of a coach can be very hard.”
Most cross country members would agree that the sport is just as mentally tough as it is physically. Members said they have their own coping mechanisms.
“I sang songs in my head,” Allen said.
