This year’s tennis team has a total of 11 girls going out, and none from the junior class. Freshman Addison Rusco said that it’s a great thing to be involved in tennis.
“You have many different opportunities,” Rusco said. “but it wasn’t that big transitioning into high school tennis because I was in tennis in middle school.”
Sophomore Ali Potts said the level of competition is high.
“Everyone always tries their hardest,” she said. “I want everyone to win every game, but that can be hard sometimes, so as long as we try hard we will be okay.”
There are four seniors on the tennis team. Even though the senior girls have more experience than the underclassmen, they said they still can get anxious about playing.
“When I play doubles I try to talk to my partner,” senior Natalie Doffing said. “It helps with the pressure. I think in singles it’s more nerve wracking than playing in doubles.”
Despite the competition and the pressure, many of the girls said they have very good memories while on the court.
“One time last year Janel [Meyer] threw a watermelon at the roof on the tennis courts,” Potts said. “It stained the roof and part of the wall. It’s actually still there.”
