Cross Country started off their second season since 2001 with a second coach, Craig Frederick.
There are many different strategies Frederick taught them to prepare for a meet.
“I like to make sure to drink lots of water, get plenty of exercise, and run a lot, ” sophomore Trent Haines said.
On Aug. 31, the cross country team ran their first meet of the season. Many of the competitors said that it felt good to finish the race.
“Finishing a race makes me feel proud,” freshman Heath Daniel said, “Especially when I don’t stop running.”
The cross country team runs, on average, 15 miles a week during their practices. Many athletes said they need something to keep them motivated that will help push them to do their best through the whole season.
“For me, it is mostly personal motivation. It is also the only sport I am good at,” sophomore Sydney Zoglmann said. “That motivates me to do my best. I am the only sibling who does sports, so making my family proud is also a part of it.”
The cross country team is still early in their season. Their second meet is Sept. 9 at Pratt Skyline.
