During the second semester, new floors were added into the lunchroom that matched the new floors added to the classrooms before the school year began. New counters were also added to the bathrooms during the second semester.

Throughout the year, CSHS has been doing some renovations on the high school. Last year, the district passed a bond issue to do work on the school. Before the school year started, the carpet throughout the building (except the auditorium) was replaced with carpet squares, and the previously tiled classrooms got luxury vinyl tile. These new floors are very different from the tile floors. Over winter break, the new floors were added into the commons and are the same vinyl tile as elsewhere in the building, with red wood-look letters that spell “CSHS.”

“I think the floors look really nice,” said teacher and lunchroom supervisor Brent Martens. “However, in my classroom there are a lot of scuff marks.”

The new floors are easily scuffed and require a lot of work to keep looking nice. Since the new floors were added in the lunchroom, the atmosphere had also changed.

“I like [the new floors in the lunchroom],” said freshman Ava Daniel. “I think they look good but it makes [the lunchroom] darker.”

The darker lunchroom is a change from the bright lunchroom that students are used to seeing. Though the new floors have caused some change, students have embraced it. In a survey that got 71 student responses, 59.2 percent said they like the new floor in the commons, 75.3 percent said they like the new carpet, 61.4 percent said they like the new bathroom counters, and 60 percent said they like the new bathroom floors.

“They [the new floors] make [the lunchroom] seem small,” said sophomore Kirsten Whitney. “I like the color.”
