Two days before Valentines Day, Netflix released the sequel of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” called “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You”. The unlikely pair of Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky are officially together and start the movie off with their first date that seems perfect and ends with a promise to never break each other’s hearts. With that dangling over their heads, they go through high school and the intricacies of balancing parties and jealous ex-girlfriends. 

Although they struggle, Lara Jean never has doubts about her relationship until one of her notorious letters from the first movie is answered out of the blue. John Ambrose is then thrown back into her life when the pair both end up volunteering at a retirement home on the weekends and relive their friendship and crush days of middle school. John’s negative feelings about Peter and his ex, Gen, cause Lara Jean to question if she made the right choice. This represents Lara Jean’s trust issues that she’s had since the first movie and her fantasy she’s always had for the boys she wrote letters to. 

I think the movie gives teenagers an unrealistic view on relationships, especially healthy ones. The movie moved quickly, but the plot moved slowly and overall was repetitive of the same issues from the first movie. Although in relationships the same issues continue to come up until you deal with them, Peter and Lara Jean never deal with them, which makes it hard and annoying to watch. 

Peter and Lara Jean do break up for a time due to these issues but end up getting back together. I felt like the right resolution, but with another movie yet to come, I’m not sure how they will tie in more issues. I hope Lara Jean and Peter will talk things through and work on their issues.

Overall, I give “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You” 3 out of 5 Cardinal heads.
