Why is a taste getting so much hate?

As a major lover of food, I have many strange tastes and preferences when it comes to my food. One such preference is one that is heavily debated by most people, almost a 50/50 split, and I don’t understand why. What I’m talking about is putting pineapple on pizza. I’ve liked it since I was a kid, and I’ve gotten so many nasty looks for liking it and expressing an interest in it. I’ve asked people what is so bad about it and the responses range from “It just doesn’t belong on there” to “I don’t know.” People should be more open minded about this topic, and maybe some more people would find a new favorite kind of pizza.

I personally love the taste of the sweet pineapple juice clashing with the tangy marinara, and that’s what I love about it. It’s just an improved kind of marinara, and then I pair that with whatever other topping I want. I remember the first time I ordered it with my family, my mother tried to stop me from making the choice to get Hawaiian because I “wouldn’t like it,” and look at me now; I’m a fighter in the war for pineapple on pizza.

In a Today.com poll on pizza debates, such as anchovies as a topping, Chicago or New York style pizza, and of course, pineapple on pizza, responses were nearly evenly split: 54% of people said that it doesn’t belong on pizza, and 46% said it’s okay. With this data, it can be hard to understand why there appears to be so much hate for this topping. People who secretly like it and follow the crowd and people who haven’t even tried it but say they don’t like it should stop hating on it and let people enjoy their pizza the way they want.
