My Hero Academia, the relatable Avengers

Written by Lawrence Pauly, staff member

My Hero Academia is a show that launched in April 2016. This anime focuses on heroes, like Avenger and DC characters, except these heroes are still kids and in training. In this world, 80% of the population has some kind of superpower, but they are called “Quirks”. Naturally some people who have powers get corrupt and turn evil, so they need heroes to protect everyone. The main character is Izuku Midoriya, who, though he is a part of the unfortunate 20% of the population that doesn’t have a power, still wants to become a hero.

Through hard work and determination, Izuku manages to get into one of the most prestigious hero schools in the country, U. A. High. He progresses along with his classmates and his childhood rival. There are 19 other characters in Izuku’s class, each  of them with very different personalities and abilities.

There have been three complete seasons and one movie in this series, and each season is around 25 episodes. The show is full of comedy and includes action scenes as well. In addition to the entertainment aspect of the show, it also includes deeper scenes that might tug at the heart strings a little, so it has something for everybody.

It’s relatable to teens because they’re dealing with high school too. It’s really similar to many American superhero movies, and it has very likable characters. This a show with the message of facing struggles and overcoming them. From school, to bullies, to even bigger problems, this show demonstrates that you still need to go beyond. So, if you have Hulu and some free time, check out My Hero Academia! I give this show 5 out of 5 cardinal heads.
