“The Seven Deadly Sins” is a good watch

Since “The Seven Deadly Sins” finally got its season two released Oct. 15, now is the perfect time to review season one. “The Seven Deadly Sins” is a Japanese-created cartoon made into a Netflix original series. It has 24 episodes in total in its first season. It’s set in medieval times with knights and wizards and ancient technology. The main character is a princess of a kingdom that was just taken over by the military, and she is searching for the legendary knights, the Seven Deadly Sins, to help her reclaim her kingdom.

The story goes that the seven knights were the greatest of the entire kingdom and they served the previous king, and then one day they were held accountable for the king’s death, and all of them were considered outlaws to be executed. All of them escaped and spread around the country. This was around a hundred years before the series takes place. Elizabeth, the princess, actually finds the first and the strongest knight, the dragon’s sin of wrath, Meliodas. After meeting and trading stories, they agree to help each other locate the other knights.

The characters in this show are extremely well written with unique personalities and designs to match them. We only get to meet six of the seven knights in the first season, which is slightly disappointing, but it leaves you excited for season two. Wrath is playful and fun, and looks like a kid. Greed looks evil and is a major trickster. Envy looks stunning and acts as her name implies, which surprisingly doesn’t get annoying at all. Sloth is essentially the parent of the group, trying to keep everyone in line. Elizabeth the princess is the only character that I could really take or leave. She’s more static, but the design is good.

“The Seven Deadly Sins” is a wonderful anime with an amazing premise and mostly well created characters. I recommend this show to anyone who is in the mood for an interesting animated show. I give the first season of “The Seven Deadly Sins” anime a four out of five cardinal heads.
