Student participates in Harper Rec Committee

The Harper Recreation Committee is a special group in the town of Harper that junior Sydnee Beal is a part of. This organization helps sports programs in Harper by raising money for what they need, such as equipment and whatever else is needed to play.

This organization has been around since 1958. They manage six different kids sports, sponsor additional events such as semi-pro baseball and college softball exhibition games.

Beal said she enjoys working on the committee.

“I like to give back, because not everybody gets the chance to,” she said.

Beal said she is a part of this group to help out the town. She was referred into the group by her father, who is the president of the committee. Anyone that lives in the town of Harper can be a part of the committee if they are voted in and they continue to work hard in the group.

She was voted into the group two and a half years ago, and she’s worked several events to help raise money. The most recent event that they’ve held is a semi-pro baseball game last July.

“My most treasured memory is the time we put over $200,000 into our baseball and softball facility,” Beal said.
