Students in high school often participate in activities outside of school. One common activity is playing piano.

The pianists had the opportunity to participate in a piano festival Saturday, Jan 26. During this festival, pianists perform for a judge and are given a score from I to V, I being the highest.

“She didn’t really give me a rating,” freshman Nathan Doffing said. “I messed up twice, but I still think I did alright.”

The next step after this festival is preparing for League. League festival puts more pressure on the participants because the results determine future participation in competition. Students have to receive a  rating at League to qualify for state.

“Practice gets tedious sometimes, so play more fun songs and supplement it with harder songs,” junior Amy Zoglmann said. “Stick with it even though it may suck.”

Students who play piano often find a way to express themselves through the music.

“I like the feeling of music,” sophomore Molly Bender said. “It gives me a chance to express myself.
