After having to cancel the annual skating event last year due to quarantine and going online, Stuco was finally able to have the ice skating day on Saturday, April 10. In past Stuco events this school year, many precautions have had to be taken; however, the ice skating was relatively normal.

“Nothing really [had to be changed],” junior Loren May said. “Just [wearing] masks.”

While masks were enforced when walking into the building, people were allowed to take them off on the ice. Stuco had attempted to add extra safety assurance for the students of Conway, but it did not work out.

“There was an option to rent out the skate rink, so we tried to do that,” May said, “but [we] got turned down.”

The event took place at the Wichita Ice Center from 7-9 p.m. although students were free to stay until it closed at 10:30. Stuco covered the cost of admission, so students just had to pay skate rental at $3 per person. Juniors and seniors enjoyed coming back and skating with their friends while freshmen and sophomores got to experience the schoolwide ice skating for the first time.

“It was a little scary, but I liked it,” sophomore Makayla Potts said. “I didn’t like the skates because they hurt my feet.”

As the public has started to become more lenient with social distancing and masks, Stuco has been able to still hold events like these that make students’ school experience a lot more fun.

“They [the Stuco events] bring people together,” freshman Riley Johnsen said. “I liked that I could hang out with friends.”
